Practical Etsy seller guide
How to write an Etsy listing buyers can understand and you can defend
A strong listing begins with accurate product facts, then turns those facts into a clear title, useful description, relevant tags, and a photo sequence that answers buyer questions.
1. Build a product fact sheet
Record only what you can verify: materials, measurements, color or finish, options, included pieces, process, care, and installation details. This keeps the title, description, attributes, variations, and images consistent.
2. Write a clear, specific title
Start with the plain-language product name. Add the most useful distinguishing details, such as material, style, size, recipient, or occasion, only when they accurately describe the item. Avoid repeating the same phrase.
3. Use tags to cover distinct buyer language
Use the available tag slots for different relevant ways a buyer might describe the product. Confirm that every phrase applies and avoid wasting slots on near-identical wording.
4. Answer practical questions in the description
Explain the item and its main differentiator, then cover size, materials, options, included pieces, process, care, packaging, personalization, and processing expectations as applicable.
5. Review the listing as a complete system
Check the title, first photo, price, variations, description, attributes, tags, and shipping expectations together. A buyer should not have to reconcile conflicting details.
