Etsy copy guide

A practical framework for Etsy titles, tags, and descriptions

Each field has a different job: the title identifies the item, tags represent relevant search language, and the description helps a buyer understand the product and purchase with confidence.

Give each listing field a clear role

Use the title for fast recognition, tags for broader relevant language, and the description for evidence, details, and buyer confidence. Choose the closest accurate category and complete applicable attributes so the listing agrees across fields.

A repeatable title formula

Begin with the concrete item name, then add the strongest truthful differentiators. A useful drafting order is product type, material or defining feature, style or use, and an essential recipient or occasion detail.

A tag review checklist

Check that every tag applies to the product, uses recognizable buyer language, and contributes something different. Review spelling, word order, overly broad terms, and near-duplicates.

A description outline buyers can scan

Open with what the item is and why it is distinct. Follow with dimensions, materials, options, included pieces, process, care, packaging, personalization, and processing expectations.
